Former participants students of an Institution wishing to maintain contact with their Alma Mater and its members generally form alumni Associations voluntarily. It was a red-letter day in the history of MDA when the Alumni Association of Ananya was formally launched on June 18th 2005. It was a moment we had been hoping for to see the these youngsters - young adults in different walks of life, taking on the challenges of the paths they have chosen in their courses of study.
It was the initiative and endeavor of young Pradeep in his 3rd year Engineering who on the Annual Day sought our permission to start this Alumni Association, and got this going. He then started collecting addresses and contacting people and the day before the city colleges opened, he organized this event at Ananya with just a little bit of help from some others.
The event was exciting for the alumni but was momentous for all of us at MDA. It was the first ever alumni meet of "Ananya School" which had its 1st batch of 10th standard State Board informally from 1998 and formally from 1999 and seeing so many of these successful students under one roof was an exhilarating experience for those present. The Secretary, Mr. D.Chandrasekar, the Chairperson, Mrs. Lakshmi Radhakrishnan along with a group of senior staff members formally inaugurated the Association. In their address to the students, one could sense their feeling of pride and their moist eyes expressing their joy in sharing the children’s achievements.
The children were welcomed back, to share their experiences and their achievements in the wide world that they had set foot into. It was indeed a proud moment for all gathered there to see these youngsters transform from the diffident, shoulder-stooping children to the bright faced, confident and outgoing children.
The President of the Association Mr. D. Chandrasekhar had a few tips for them on how to keep an alumni association alive and kicking and offered to help the students set up a Yahoo group so they could stay in touch, share their experience and keep the Alumni going strong.
Unlike other schools where a student spends a few years and knows most of the others, we had a new situation here. Since most of the students had been with us only for a year, they had to acquaint themselves with students from other batches. So the afternoon started with a round of introductions, their names, their batches and what they were doing currently. We watched in amazement as this was done in a most confident manner. Slowly everyone loosened up and there was a lot of sharing of experiences. |
