Intensive Teacher Training Course:

MDA offers teacher training courses in the identification of and training methodology for children with Specific Learning Difficulty-Dyslexia.

• Intensive Teacher Training offered twice a year, once in July and again in November. It is a six weeks course with 2months of compulsory internship offered to all candidates and extended internship of 3 months for selective candidates.

 What can one do after completing this training?

• To work as a special educator providing remedial help to children with Dyslexia
• To work in a school Resource Centre in a mainstream school
• To start your own resource room centre

Mainstream Teacher Training Course:

As many of these children with Dyslexia are in the mainstream schools; teachers, therapists and counselors need to be made aware of this condition. We offer a 8-Day Course in the first week of May, January, February, March and April

This course helps to:

• Identify a child with Dyslexia
• To be able to refer the child to the appropriate kind of help
• To be able to help the child within the classroom by using some of the methods
• To be able to provide the child some accommodations in the classroom

8-Day weekend Course on similar lines to the Main Stream Teacher Training was started a few years ago based on the feedback from participants. This training happens only on Saturdays starting in the month of October and the next batch happening in the month of January. The teachers are able to take back the information and try it within their classrooms and give a feedback the following week.

Parent Training:

There are many parents who would like to help their child and seek help in understanding their child and learning the methodologies.

The nature of the parent training program:

• In small groups

• In groups of parents with children in similar ages, so that the sharing between parents is also meaningful

What does the program consist of?

• Understanding the condition and the remedial techniques in the different areas
• Behavior and emotional handling
• Methodology that works with their children

When is it conducted?

• It is conducted twice a year when we get a group of 25 parents

What else is offered for parents?

• A home program especially for those who come from outstation or those who don't have access to a remedial teacher

Refresher courses:

Those who have done an intensive course in the past but want to get updated can join the refresher program to be conducted once a year in the month of September.

Workshops:

MDA offers workshops for teachers and students. We cater to the needs of the schools and conduct 6 day workshops if requested by the schools.

These are normally conducted in their own schools.

• Workshops are conducted for awareness and identification
• Workshops in specific areas of Reading, Spelling, Writing, Math, Multiple intelligences and Lesson plan using M.I and Language development.
• Workshop for teachers on study skill strategies.
