Resource Rooms

MDA being the pioneer in enabling children with Specific Learning Disabilities more familiarly known as Dyslexia join the mainstream, has been in the forefront to set up

Resource Rooms

in schools.

What are Resource Rooms?

A room within the school with a familiar ambience for the child; helps build confidence and self worth. Is a bridge between remediation and curriculum. In a

Resource Room

the process is to Leverage Known Strengths to address Deficits by nurturing dominant intelligences.

For Whom?

Primary school child with moderate to severe learning disabilities.

Outcome?
  • Remedial teaching
  • Skill development
  • Nurture the skills developed
  • Bridge between remedial and conceptual teaching
Requisites:Infrastructure:

Earmark separate room with adequate furniture

Staffing:

Identify teachers and train them to be Special Educators along with training program for all teachers on sensitization about Dyslexia

Process:

Identify – Screen – Plan IEP - Evaluation

Monitoring:

Knowledge experts handhold & guide apart from overseeing remediation and center management

Advantages:

School teachers are sensitized and understand how the child learns which is vital in helping the child to have a regular schooling experience.

Child is able to overcome his skill deficits through remedial intervention, thereby performing to his potential in class without the need for a special school.

Enables clear communication and coordination between the class teacher, special educators and parent.

Morale of the child and confidence gets a boost. Parent feels comfortable and acceptance of such intervention is better in comparison to remediation in special schools.

The RR becomes a screening center and assists in making IEP and lesson plans.

MDA’s Role:

Resource rooms have been setup in schools throughout India by MDA enabling schools and the children benefit from the in-house facility to overcome their needs.

**Awareness and workshop for all the Primary teachers in a school.

**Intensive 6 weeks training to select teachers to become special educators.
